Body of dead ride-hailing driver found fallen outside his vehicle in M’sia, believed to have died from overwork

Ride-hailing driver found dead in his vehicle in Malaysia

A ride-hailing driver was found dead inside his vehicle at the Medan Sentral Commercial Centre in Bintulu, Sarawak, Malaysia, on Saturday (2 Nov).

At around 5am, a passerby saw that the door on the driver’s side of the white car was open and found the man in the driver’s seat.

His upper body had fallen out of the car while his feet were still inside.

Thinking it was a murder, the passerby immediately called the police.

Incident has no criminal elements

The deceased was found to be 46-year-old Syed Mohsin Ali Shah, a Pakistani man who had been living in Bintulu for nearly 30 years.

It is believed that the man felt unwell and fell to the ground after opening the car door, hitting his head.

It is also estimated that the ride-hailing driver had been dead for less than 12 hours when he was discovered.

The Criminal Investigation Team confirmed that none of the deceased’s belongings was stolen and there were no signs of struggle at the scene, concluding that the incident had no criminal elements.

After contacting Mr Shah’s relatives, it was discovered that he suffered from heart disease and hypertension, which led the police to believe that he died from overwork.

Following a preliminary investigation, the police have classified it as a case of sudden death.

Police chief calls for witnesses

Mr Shah’s body has been sent to a hospital morgue and is pending forensic examination to find out the cause of his death.

Meanwhile, Bintulu District Police Chief Superintendent Nixon Joshua Ali called on witnesses to contact Bintulu Central Police Station for information regarding the incident.

He also urged the public to refrain from making speculations and spreading false news.
