SAF to deliver blankets & other aid supplies to Typhoon Yagi victims

The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) is set to provide crucial humanitarian aid to those affected by Typhoon Yagi.

This relief effort will see the deployment of essential supplies to Vietnam, Laos, and Myanmar.

The assistance includes a range of essential supplies, such as blankets, hygiene kits, water filters, and meal packs.

These items were sourced from existing SAF stockpiles and have been consolidated with contributions from key non-governmental organisations (NGOs) including the Singapore Red Cross, Relief Singapore, and Humanity Matters.

In addition, numerous boxes of water bottles will also be part of the aid package, as shown in images provided by the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF).

To facilitate the delivery, MINDEF has announced the deployment of three aircraft: two C-130 transport planes and an A330 Multi-Role Tanker Transport.

These aircraft will transport the aid supplies to the affected regions across Southeast Asia.

Colonel Fredie Tan, Director of the SAF’s Changi Regional Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief Coordination Centre (Changi RHCC), affirmed the SAF’s readiness to support disaster relief efforts in the affected communities.

He highlighted the critical role of collaboration between military and civilian entities in the region, stating: “We will continue to work closely with our Civil-Military partners such as local and regional NGOs, as well as the AHA Centre.”

Typhoon Yagi has wreaked havoc across Southeast Asia, bringing heavy rains, strong winds, and severe flooding, as well as causing extensive damage to infrastructure, homes, and livelihoods.
