In the aftermath of the Covid-19 outbreak, many public places like malls and even offices have implemented some form of temperature screening.
However, in Singapore’s most recent Covid-19 cluster, all patrons of a private dinner at SAFRA Jurong’s Joy Garden Restaurant on 15 Feb cleared temperature checks, according to The Straits Times.
SAFRA was quoted as saying that no one showed symptoms as well, in response to news that SAFRA Jurong is now the latest virus cluster in the country.
On 5 Mar, the Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed that there were 8 cases from the SAFRA Jurong cluster.
This was despite the fact that none of the attendees had been to Mainland China in the past 14 days before they went to the club.
The first reported case from this cluster was a 12-year-old Raffles Institution student.
The latest cases – a 62-year-old man and 3 women aged 50 to 62 – are also from the same cluster.
Furthermore, none of them had any fever or flu-like symptoms.
SAFRA said in a statement that Joy Garden restaurant, the centre of the cluster, closed for cleaning between 16-19 Feb.
Other areas the affected individuals could have visited were also thoroughly cleaned and disinfected again as a precautionary measure.
A multi-agency task force targeting Singapore’s cleanliness and public hygiene has since been set up after news of the SAFRA Jurong cluster. Some of their hygiene tips are centered around our eating habits.
When eating in public, don’t remove your trays before eating. This will prevent spillage on the tables which cleaners will have to touch.
If there are shared dishes, use serving utensils like a common spoon and chopsticks instead of your personal utensils. However, the best option would be avoid sharing food entirely.
