Beware Of Scammers Impersonating Healthcare Staff Asking For Financial Details, Warns MOH

MOH Warns Against Scammers Impersonating Healthcare & Contract Tracing Staff

We are at a critical point in time where non-compliance with simple rules like 1-metre distancing could see us getting slapped with hefty fines or imprisonment. Naturally, citizens are on their best behaviour during this period to avoid getting into trouble.

However, this is also when scammers have the most power.

The Ministry of Health (MOH) has made a public service announcement warning citizens to beware of scammers impersonating MOH and contract tracing staff.

In their Facebook post, they elaborated that scammers use automated voice calls to ask patients to provide personal information involving financial details, or collect documents from the ministry.

Unlike scammers, MOH will not ask for financial details

MOH stressed that they will never ask for financial details during contact tracing.

The health ministry will also not ask patients to collect documents from them, if the patient does not have existing business with MOH.

Verify authenticity of instructions before giving up personal information

They ended off their Facebook post advising citizens to verify the authenticity of instructions before offering any personal information, or making any payments.

If in doubt, one should call the MOH hotline at 1800-333-9999 to confirm.

Staying vigilant not just against Covid-19, but also against scammers

While the Covid-19 pandemic is the most pressing concern nowadays, we must not forget other dangers prevalent in society.

Please remain cautious, especially when asked to give up personal information or money.
