Staff Sergeant (SSG) Mohammad Nur Fatwa Mahmood will go to jail for 13 months for his involvement in May’s fatal ragging incident.
SSG Mahmood was sentenced on Tuesday (23 Oct).
Court documents revealed that the SCDF staff sergeant had pushed CPL Kok Yuen Chin into a 12m-deep pump well. CPL Kok eventually drowned in the well.
SSG Mahmood claims that he was told to push CPL Kok into the well.
SSG Mahmood also pleaded guilty to 1 count of obstruction of justice for telling another officer to delete footage of the incident.
For committing a rash act causing death, SSG Mahmood faced a maximum sentence for this is a jail term of up to 5 years or a fine, or both.
And for abetting the obstruction of the course of justice by instigation, he faced a maximum penalty of 7 years’ jail and a fine.
SSG Mahmood is the first of 5 SCDF personnel linked to the ragging incident to be sentenced.
