Super Efficient Singapore Arrests SEA Games Match-Fixers Even Before Opening Ceremony

One Singaporean is among the accused

The South-East Asian (SEA) Games Opening Ceremony will take place next Friday, on 5 June 2015. This, according to the cover photo of the official SEA Games Facebook page.

However, the football segment of the SEA Games starts earlier, as is customary for any multi-sport event.

Today (29 May), Brunei and Vietnam kicked off the SEA Games football calendar.

Also today, the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) nabbed several individuals for their involvement in alleged match-fixing.

Wait, what?

Yep. The CPIB have done it. They have effectively prevented crime. Obviously, somebody in 2 Lengkok Bahru has access to Tom Cruise and his precognitive triplets.

There is no information on how many were arrested, but we are told that there is (only?) one Singaporean among the accused, which consists of a multi-national party.

Members of the Timor-Leste SEA Games football team are also implicated.

Football’s a little smelly

These match-fixing allegations come two days after the arrest of several high-ranking FIFA (the world football governing body) officials for corruption.

Of course, FIFA isn’t linked to these arrests — SEA Games football comes under the purview of the Southeast Asian Games Federation (SEAGF), which is in turn, overseen by the International Olympic Committee.

SEAGF has already said that the Games will carry on as planned.

Btw, Brunei lost 6-0 to Vietnam in the first SEA Games 2015 football match.
