Severed head & hands found in US home freezer, turns out to be former owner’s missing daughter

Severed head and hands of previous owner’s daughter found in freezer of US home

In a chilling discovery on Jan 12, 2024, a severed head and hands were found inside a freezer at a house in Colorado, USA.

Nine months later, The Mesa County Coroner’s Office confirmed on Oct 11 that the remains belonged to Amanda Leariel Overstreet, the biological daughter of the home’s previous owner.

According to the coroner’s report, Overstreet “has not been seen or heard from since April 2005”.

She was believed to be 16 years old at the time of her disappearance.

However, she was never reported missing.

Discovery made while cleaning out recently sold property

Police were initially called to the house on Jan 12 regarding what they termed a “suspicious incident”.

In a statement posted on 15 Jan, they revealed that “persons at the address cleaning out the recently sold property discovered possible human remains inside the residence”.

The new owner had been offering free appliances, and it was while picking these up that someone stumbled upon the severed head and hands, reported The Mirror US.

Days later, an autopsy confirmed that the remains were indeed human.

Rest of body remains missing

In a Facebook post on 11 Oct, police emphasised that the home involved in the homicide investigation is now under new ownership, “completely unrelated to the previous case”.

They urged the public to respect the privacy of the current owner and neighbours by avoiding driving by or taking photos of the property.

According to the Daily Mail, the coroner’s office stated that the rest of Overstreet’s body “has not been recovered at this time”.

Forensic testing is underway to learn more about her death.

No arrests have been made

Mesa County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Wendy Likes told the Daily Mail that Overstreet was the biological daughter of 55-year-old Leanne, the former homeowner, who still resides in Colorado.

On 17 July 2021, Leanne’s husband and Overstreet’s stepfather, Bradley, died from cardiac arrest after a severe case of Covid-19.

The following day, Leanne posted a fundraiser on Facebook for his funeral expenses and hospital bills, sharing that their biological daughter was devastated by his death, as they were best friends.

Leanne and Bradley had two biological children together, a son and a daughter.

Authorities confirmed that no arrests have been made at this time, and they declined to comment on whether Overstreet’s biological father has been identified or interviewed.

The investigation into her disappearance and death remains ongoing.
