As the Covid-19 outbreak in Singapore isn’t fully contained yet, it’s crucial that everyone continues to take social-distancing measures seriously.
Yet during the ‘Circuit Breaker’ period, when people not from the same household were not allowed to visit each other, Cheng Feng Zhao offered sexual services to a “regular” at her rented apartment.
The work-permit holder pleaded guilty on Wednesday (3 Jun) to 2 charges of flouting Covid-19 regulations, and was fined $7,000.
On 5 May, Cheng let a 51-year-old man into her rented apartment on Jalan Kemaman, reported 8World News.
There, she provided him massage and masturbation services in exchange for $100.
She reportedly offered similar services to the same client, who is a regular, a month before on 19 Apr.
The police arrested the 38-year-old Chinese national during an anti-vice raid that day.
According to Channel NewsAsia (CNA), the police saw the client entering the condo and going into Cheng’s apartment at about 3pm.
They then searched the unit after the man left 50 minutes later.
Cheng was supposed to work as a restaurant waitress in Singapore.
Instead, she offered sexual services and even advertised them online, paying a fee to be promoted, reported CNA.
In fact, she never showed up for work as a waitress, the court heard.
It wasn’t disclosed if her work permit was revoked.
During the hearing, Cheng pleaded for leniency, claiming that she only offered the services as she did not have any income during the pandemic.
She also expressed remorse for her offence, with CNA reporting her as saying that she did not have qualifications to earn income otherwise.
When asked why she did not report for work as a waitress, CNA also quoted her as saying,
When I came here, I discovered there was no such job available.
Cheng isn’t the only person who has flouted the rules in this way. In April, another woman was also charged for providing massage and masturbation services to a man during the ‘Circuit Breaker’.
We hope these women will turn over a new leaf and will not commit similar offences in the future.
Though the ‘Circuit Breaker’ is over, Covid-19 measures must still be taken seriously to keep infection rates under control.
