It takes a lot of courage to uproot oneself and live overseas alone. In such situations, losing nearly everything you own in that unfamiliar place can be especially distressing.
Former Singaporean actress Sharon Au, unfortunately, understood this feeling when she became the victim of an apartment robbery in Paris. She says she has lost “everything [she] love[s]”, but is grateful to still have her cat, Rudon, by her side.
After 11 days, she mustered enough courage to share her story in an Instagram post which drew sympathy from her followers.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday (11 May), Au recounted the horrific apartment robbery she experienced on 30 Apr.
They took everything I love. I have nothing now.
However, she was grateful that Rudon, her black and white cat that was alone in the apartment at the time of the incident, was safe.
Unfortunately, the incident apparently traumatised Rudon, who now gets startled by even the slightest sound.
Nevertheless, Au is grateful that he didn’t run away and waited patiently for her to come home.
Her note, which took her 11 days to write “without crying”, concludes with her take on life.
Starting from zero. Again. This is life.
Shortly after uploading the post, she shared a photo of a police officer in her home via Instagram story, with Rudon sitting on a shelf.
After reading about her incident, many were quick to flood the comments section with words of support and encouragement. Fellow Singaporean actress Serene Gong sent Au some positivity and encouraged her to take things slow.
Radio DJ Jean Danker even offered to help, asking Au what she could do to make things easier for her.
An Instagram user reiterated that the safety of Au and Rudon was the priority, and they were glad that both of them were alright.
Such a devastating incident must have been traumatising for both Au and Rudon.
At the end of the day, however, we’re glad that they’re both safe.
We hope that Au will find the strength and means to overcome this experience and emerge stronger.
