900 S’pore Clinics To Stay Open During CNY In Case You Get Sore Throat From Bak Kwa Overdose

Not All Clinics Will Close For CNY, So Don’t Worry About Not Being Able To See A Doctor

CNY isn’t just a time for gatherings with friends and families. It’s also that time of the year where you stuff your face full with festive snacks like bak kwa, love letters, and spicy shrimp rolls.

But feasting on these snacks can be pretty ‘heaty’ — try finishing 5 slices of bak kwa without drinking water, and you’re almost guaranteed a sore throat the next day.

If CNY snacks have always been your throat’s nemesis, here’s good news.

During the CNY holidays, over 900 clinics will remain open so you’ll be able to get an ‘antidote’ for your sore throat in case you’re down with a bak kwa overdose.

949 GP clinics will stay open

According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), 949 general practitioners will be open during the CNY holidays from Friday (24 Jan) to Monday (27 Jan).

Of these clinics, 15 of them are open around the clock, so you can visit one of them if your throat’s killing you in the middle of the night.

Singaporeans are advised to seek medical treatment at these GP clinics only when they’re down with “minor, self-limiting conditions”.

Those with more severe or life-threatening emergencies such as chest pain, breathlessness and uncontrollable bleeding should instead head to a hospital’s A&E department.

In light of all the Chinese New Year feasting ahead, MOH has some words of advice for all celebrating the festival,

eat in moderation and continue exercising regularly to stay healthy over the holiday period.

You can check out the full list of clinics here.

Members of the public are advised to call the GP clinics to check if they are open before making their way there.

Have a healthy new year

While it’s great to have clinics remain open during the festive season, it’s better to stay healthy and take care of ourselves.

We hope that no one will have to visit the clinics throughout the CNY weekend, and instead spend the break with family and friends.
