Singaporeans across the country are encouraged to display the national flag between 1 July and 30 Sep.
To commemorate the nation’s 59th anniversary, the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) announced relaxed rules ahead of the National Day celebration period, allowing more flexibility in displaying the flag.
According to The Straits Times (ST), an MCCY statement on Thursday (27 June) detailed the relaxed rules for flying and displaying national flags.
For three months, all organisations and households are permitted to display the Singapore flag at offices, building premises, and residential premises.
In addition, flags may be flown without a flagpole and night illumination during this period.
The usual guidelines for using the Singapore national flag specify that it must be flown from a flagpole in front of a building when displayed outside.
It also should not be flown at night without proper illumination.
MCCY reminded citizens to treat the national flag with respect and dignity when displaying it.
It advised against displaying torn or worn-out flags, which should be disposed of in a sealed black trash bag.
The Ministry also emphasised the significance of the national flag as Singapore’s foremost symbol of statehood, unity, and resilience.
The national flag is Singapore’s most visible symbol of statehood and a symbol of our national unity and resilience. It should be treated with respect and used in an appropriate and dignified manner.
