Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong has confirmed that he went jalan jalan at Bird Paradise recently after a video of him there was circulated over social media.
In a TikTok video posted on Monday (4 Nov), he was seen carrying a large camera at the attraction.
The TikTok user who shared the photo said they had a chance encounter with Mr Lee at Bird Paradise and asked why the area wasn’t cordoned off for his visit.
Judging from the fact that he was carrying at least two cameras, SM seems to love photography a lot, the netizen added.
Mr Lee was later seen standing next to a waterfall with his wife, Madam Ho Ching. Behind them were members of the public.
While he was looking intently at a smaller camera, Mdm Ho was interacting with a child.
In a Facebook post on Friday (7 Nov), Mr Lee said he enjoyed his visit to Bird Paradise last weekend.
While he was “glad to see many visitors old and young” at Bird Paradise, he was also happy to test out his photography skills on the many avians there.
One of the photos he shared was of two macaws “fighting quite aggressively with each other”.
A much calmer sight was of two sun parakeets sharing a snack.
He also managed to take brilliant photos of flamingos.
Rivalling the flamingos for colour was a scarlet ibis, with its bright red plumage from its diet of shellfish and shrimps, Mr Lee said.
Another ibis behind it had not fully spouted its red feathers, as he said the birds start life with black feathers.
Describing himself as “still a rookie” in bird photography, he said the avians are “are a challenging but fun subject”, adding:
You need to be fast (and lucky) in order to catch them in the best poses, and the focussing needs to be just right to capture the beautiful plumage in sharp detail.
He also said he hasn’t managed to catch any birds in flight yet.
Mr Lee has been known to share expertly taken snaps when he visits scenic spots across Singapore, adding the hashtag #jalanjalan.
Last month, he visited the recently opened Japanese Garden and posted many photos of its various attractions.
He’s previously gone jalan jalan at other nature spaces, such as the Botanic Gardens, Admiralty Park and Woodlands Waterfront Park.
