SMRT revealed shocking news today (23 Mar) after a worker died in a freak accident at Bishan Depot earlier this morning.
According to The Straits Times (ST), the accident occurred at 9.20am, and the worker was sent to hospital immediately.
Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries roughly 2 hours later, at around 11.20am.
Technical Officer Muhammad Afiq bin Senawi was working in a Rolling Stock workshop at the depot this morning, reports ST.
The Rolling Stock workshop is where staff perform inspections on trains.
How he got hurt is unclear, but he was reportedly operating a hydraulic press machine when the accident happened.

He was immediately given first aid, until paramedics arrived to take him to the hospital.
But after 2 hours, he succumbed to his injuries.
ST adds that SMRT will be assisting the Land Transport Authority (LTA), Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and police with investigations.
They have called for a safety time-out in the meantime, which includes a suspension of all similar maintenance works.
