In just over two hours, 190 MPs unanimously voted to lift the martial law, which the president must comply with, according to the constitution.

Yoon to face impeachment & insurrection charges

Meanwhile, South Korea’s opposition says it will begin impeachment proceedings against President Yoon if he doesn’t step down immediately.

They plan to propose a bill to impeach President Yoon today, which should be voted on within 72 hours, according to Reuters.

On top of his impeachment, insurrection charges will also be filed against the president and his top security officials, including his defence and interior ministers and key military and police figures.

Subsequently, President Yoon’s chief of staff and over 10 senior secretaries have submitted their resignation, CNN reported.
