A driver of a Toyota Alphard in Thailand caused a collision involving 12 vehicles after driving erratically at high speeds.
According to Thairath, the accident occurred on Thursday (5 Dec) night at around 9pm in Pattaya.
An eyewitness told reporters he spotted the speeding Alphard while topping up fuel at a nearby gas station.
The Alphard was driving at high speeds when it grazed two trucks parked on the side of the road.
Instead of stopping, the vehicle sped up and began driving erratically. Security footage showed the carnage that ensued.
Around 100 metres down the road, the Alphard hit a black MG SUV.
The impact launched the MG onto its side and it slid across the road before crashing into a parked Chevrolet.
Police found the 30-year-old driver of the overturned MG dead at the scene.
The MG had also pushed the Chevrolet into four parked motorcycles nearby, damaging all of them.
A further 200 metres down the road, the Alphard sped into a black Suzuki causing it to lose control.
The Suzuki then hit a parked Mitsubishi before crashing into a nearby house.
When police arrived, they found the Alphard parked on the side of the road, with the driver sat next to it.
They arrested the man and tested him for drugs and alcohol.
Police found no alcohol in the 39-year-old driver from China — who exhibited no signs of inebriation — but further drug tests are underway.
According to Channel 3 News, a total of 12 vehicles were damaged in the chaos, seven cars and five motorcycles.
The driver claims he had been feeling sleepy and tired at the wheel.
After he grazed the trucks, he panicked and then continued to drive on, eventually causing the collisions.
Apart from the one death, the collisions resulted in four individuals being injured.
Police are looking to charge the man with reckless driving causing injury and death.
