A routine sampling of the Malaysian product had shown a strain of bacteria called Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

People with compromised immune systems, such as those with anemia and pneumonia, and those recovering from major surgeries have a far greater chance of developing severe illness than healthy people.

For healthy people, ingesting/exposure to the bacteria may cause only minor health problems like,

  • Mild fevers
  • Gastrointestinal infections
  • Ear infections
  • Skin rashes
  • Eye infections
