On Friday (1 Nov), two men allegedly teamed up to steal shoes along a Pasir Ris HDB corridor using a ‘donation collection’ trick.
Their activities were caught in footage shared by an MS News reader who said that one of the men first scouted the corridor at about 10.26am that day.
He took a look at the shoes outside the resident’s unit before pulling out a piece of paper from his pocket. The man then placed it on top of two pairs of shoes in a plastic bag and left.
According to 30-year-old engineer Billy who provided the footage, he had left the shoes in the plastic bag outside at 10.15am.
He meant to bring them to his friend, only to find out that they had disappeared.
Billy noted that the second man arrived within a minute of the first.
“You can see that he knows exactly what to steal,” he said.
In another clip, an older man who appeared to be on the phone headed directly to the plastic bag containing the shoes and took it away in one clean swoop.
Billy suspects that the two men were working together and that they had planned the elaborate ruse.
He noted that the piece of paper could be used as an “excuse” for a “donation collection”, in the scenario where the second man gets caught.
The alleged thieves snatched away two pairs of shoes, a Bape Sta Enlarged M2 and a Nike SB Dunk Low x Sean Cliver, that amounted to approximately S$800.
Billy also added that he had never seen the two men in the area before. He has filed a police report following the theft.
