Student in Malaysia dies after experiencing headache days before national exam

A female student from Johor passed away on Thursday (5 Dec) after experiencing a headache the day before she was due to take her Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) exam.

According to The Star, the exams began on 2 Dec and will continue until 6 Feb next year.

Johor State Executive Councillor for Health and Yong Peng State Assemblyman, Ling Tian Soon, shared that the 17-year-old, surnamed Shen, suddenly collapsed after complaining of a headache on the evening before her exam.

She was immediately rushed to a clinic for emergency treatment.

Falls into coma after complaining of headache

Ms Shen fell into a coma shortly after the headache and was transferred to a government hospital for further care.

“The doctor diagnosed that the student had suffered a brain haemorrhage due to a ruptured blood vessel, which led to her coma,” Mr Ling told China Press.

Despite receiving treatment, she remained in a coma, and her condition continued to worsen.

At 11.18am on Thursday, Mr Ling posted on Facebook that the student had passed away.

“Little sister, may you rest in peace,” he wrote. “I hope her parents and loved ones can stay strong.”

In his interview with China Press, Mr Ling revealed that the student had occasionally mentioned to her classmates that she had been experiencing headaches, but appeared otherwise normal.

 

For the past two days, her teachers and classmates had visited her at the hospital while she remained in a coma.

Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated, and she passed away at approximately 9.40am.

According to her parents, their daughter was an honour student who had been diligently preparing for the SPM exam, striving to achieve excellent results.
