Malaysian police have arrested a 22-year-old Chinese national for kidnapping and other charges.
According to The Straits Times (ST), the girl’s father, a 48-year-old Chinese national, filed a police report after his daughter failed to turn up at school on 25 Nov.
The Singapore Police Force said in a statement to MS News that it received a missing persons report regarding the 15-year-old girl at about 2.15pm on the same day.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the girl “voluntarily left” Singapore before the report was filed. She was also “unaccompanied” when leaving the country.
In a separate statement, the Johor police said the girl’s father notified them on Tuesday (26 Nov), which led to the raid in Kuantan later that day.
During the raid, police arrested a 22-year-old man and confiscated several items, including mobile phones, clothing, and equipment linked to the case.
Commissioner Kumar stated that the suspect is under investigation for kidnapping, child sexual assault, child trafficking, and abduction.
He shared that Malaysian authorities are looking into the motive behind the incident.
Commissioner Kumar said the girl will undergo a medical examination at a hospital while the suspect will remain in custody until next Monday (2 Dec).
