Coronavirus this, DORSCON Orange that – people are just not having much fun outdoors these days.
But life has to go on, and while many places are likely to look emptier, MakBesar Powerhouse Market is set to take over Suntec Convention Centre from now until Sunday (16 Feb).
There’s no reason not to go out and have a good time – especially for Valentine’s Day – as long as we take the necessary precautions.
After all, there’ll be food, art, and concerts to enjoy and a virus shouldn’t get in the way of that.
The organisers as well as Suntec’s Management have prepared an array of health measures, to ensure that attendees can stay safe.
Bask in the nostalgia with the decor, modeled after the 90s.
The bright lights, neon colours and ghetto decor will give you a fun atmosphere you can hardly get these days, what with everything becoming “minimalist”.
The way to a Singaporean’s heart is undoubtedly food.
There will be various local food booths decked out in ghetto style, and there’s definitely enough variety for even the most picky eater.
Beef Bro will satisfy carnivores with their take on meat – they, as the name would suggest, specialise in tender beef cubes, with or without carbs like rice and pasta.
Muah Chee Nongs, meanwhile, serve up traditional glutinous flour balls that’re Halal-friendly and which are great to share – provided everyone’s healthy!
The Outslider features some of the coolest fusion innovations we’ve seen.
I mean, these patties wrapped in mantou bread look pretty damn sinful, but sinful food also tends to be the most irresistible.
And what’s better than walking about with food in hand? A drink in the other, of course.
There are no shortage of liquid goodies at MakBesar Powerhouse Market.
There’s something for everyone. The kids will be delighted to note that various activities for them are in store at MakBesar Powerhouse Market, brought to you by ERA Explorer Group with J Kids Amusement.
There are bouncy castles to both explore and frolic around.
If perhaps coming into close contact with others sounds terrifying, there are claw machines where you can win splendid prizes.
There are lots of other activities for the kiddos, so don’t hesitate to bring them along! We promise it won’t get in the way of your shopping time.
And those concerned about the potential spread of viruses can rest assured: surface wipes and child-safe sanitizers will be provided at all kids’ areas.
Every day is jam day at MakBesar Powerhouse Market.
There’ll be a concert each and everyday, with both local and regional acts set to take the stage.
The highlight has got to be serial singing contest winner Hady Mirza.
Teenage sensation Syah Riszuan is just 14 but has performed at more than 100 shows. He’s sure to give concertgoers a good time.
Fellow teen sensation Syurga Jeffrey is no slouch either, being just 16 years old.
For those who simply wish to “put your hands up”, Sunday (16 Feb) is the day to mark on your calendar.
A Hip Hoppers Concert featuring the following will be in attendance, back to back:
– Guiizi Ghettomen
– Itsdatboyinblvck
– Benny aka Scrapple
– Atrez
– Ryan Deedat
– Daly Filsuf
– One Nation Emcees featuring DJ Senor Shah
So sing your heart out this weekend.
There’s much more than just food and concerts.
Don’t miss out on some new scarf designs as Diyana Halik, best known as the wife of Aaron Aziz, will be launching some together with Band of Braders at the event.
You can even lug home some spanking beanbags from Bean Bag Boom, and they sure look comfy enough – judging from the contented faces of those chilling on them.
Hady Mirza himself will be launching some fragrances with Wali Fragrance, so do look out for that booth if you wish to try his range.
Most events don’t have many chill areas where you can just kick back and relax or wait for your loved one to be done with their shopping, but there’ll be a special zone just to lepak and play some checkers or chess.
There’s even going to be a barber shop, operated by Grand Ciseaux, in case you’d like to get a fresh new cut while you wait.
Covid-19 shouldn’t have to threaten our way of life, as long as we take the necessary precautions.
For example, all food servers have been asked to wear masks and gloves, and the area will be disinfected at scheduled timings.
Also handlers will wipe down all surfaces with disinfectant sprays 5 times a day, and all vendors plus staff will have temperature screenings. Those with a fever will not be allowed into the event.
So don’t be afraid to come down, have some food and have a good time with the various booths and concerts, in what is sure to be a memorable event.
