Equal parts hilarious and mildly frustrating, we’ve all fallen victim to a “rickroll” at some point.
You click on what seems like a perfectly normal link from a friend — only to be greeted by Rick Astley serenading you with his catchy 80s hit, ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’.
While usually confined to the world of internet trickery, one park in Yunlin, Taiwan, has decided to bring the meme to life in the real world.
A local English teacher, baffled and amused, snapped a photo of the notice and shared it on Facebook, where it quickly went viral.
Thousands reacted, with many laughing at the park’s cheeky way of weaving a classic internet prank into its signage.
Like any classic rickroll, the notice starts off normally enough.
The Chinese portion outlines standard park rules — things like no vandalism or littering.
But then, the English section kicks in, and that’s where things get gloriously ridiculous.
“We are no strangers to love, you know the rules and so do I,” the first line reads, a nod to the opening lyrics of Astley’s legendary anthem.
From there, the notice dives deeper into the song, listing the rest of the lyrics in bullet points, with “never gonna run around and desert you” popping up repeatedly.
Interestingly, there is no translation of the Mandarin notice in the English version at all.
As the post continued to gain traction on Facebook, the Tourism Director of Yunlin County clarified that the lyrics were intentionally printed as a placeholder.
“This provides a more light-hearted and fun way for people visiting the cultural park,” she told local media.
The park, built in the early 1900s, holds significant cultural value, with many historical infrastructures preserved over the decades. It’s a place where visitors can explore the rich heritage of the area.
That being said, the director also assured that the final details would be confirmed with the construction teams once the park officially opens.
The board will be updated with a professional translation to ensure the public can better understand the cultural significance of the site.
So for now, visitors can enjoy a little bit of ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ before they ‘run around and desert’ the notice.
