Police have arrested a 27-year-old man for suspected mischief by fire after signs of vandalism were seen at a Tampines HDB block.
Tampines GRC MP Koh Poh Koon confirmed this in a Facebook post on Monday (29 July).
He assured residents that a suspect had been apprehended in response to residents’ concerns. He also thanked the Singapore Police Force (SPF) for their swift arrest.
Dr Koh had posted on Facebook about residents being concerned about vandalism at the public spaces of Block 603A Tampines Ave 9, also known as Tampines GreenRidges.
Several images of the block show char marks on the block’s public spaces, notably on the 13th and 14th storeys.
A ‘No Smoking’ poster was similarly vandalised.
Other notices and rubbish chutes were filled with char marks as well.
The char marks appear to have been caused by deliberate burning.
According to Dr Koh, officers from the Bedok Police Division arrested a 27-year-old on Sunday (28 July).
“The man will be charged in court on 29 July with the offence of mischief by fire with intent to cause damage,” he added.
If found guilty, he can be jailed for up to seven years and receive a fine.
