A teen triggered a statewide search after he went missing for five days in Malaysia.
According to the Malaysia Gazette, the family of 14-year-old Muhammad Syawal Abdullah filed a missing person report to the police on Tuesday (5 Nov). He was last seen at his home at 7.30am the same day.
The boy, who is the fourth of five children, told his parents that he was not feeling well enough to go to school that day.
He then left home without his parents’ knowledge, reported Malay Mail.
The Johor police had also urged the public in a since-deleted statement to keep a lookout for Muhammad Syawal on Friday (8 Nov), three days after his supposed disappearance.
According to the teen’s mother, they had looked for him at their relatives’ and neighbours’ homes to no avail.
Kluang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner, Bahrin Mohd Noh, confirmed that Muhammad Syawal was found safe on Sunday (10 Nov) morning.
“During his disappearance, Muhammad Syawal was at his friend’s house in the same village,” he said.
His parents reportedly found him safe at home at 3.30am.
The teen then explained that he was at his friend’s house to “hang out and play PS2 games” during the time he was missing.
Additionally, the 14-year-old stated that he had returned home to shower and eat while his parents were away.
