In a drunken fit, a foreigner in Thailand pulled out his crossbow and fired a bolt at a tourist’s head.
Thankfully, the victim survived the attack as the arrow hit the iPhone that was pressed to her ear.
According to Khaosod, the incident occurred inside a residence on Koh Samui in the early hours last Thursday (19 June).
Just before the incident, a Norwegian woman identified as Ms Pia was relaxing in the living room of a Koh Samui residence while her companion, Mr Simon, was lounging on a sofa.
Suddenly, Mr Elmer, a 56-year-old Norwegian man who had been drinking alone in his room, burst into the living room and began shouting at Ms Pia.
He began to get aggressive soon after, which prompted Ms Pia to contact the police.
Seeing this, the enraged Mr Elmer returned to his room, only to return with a laser-fitted crossbow.
Mr Simon, alarmed by the sight of an armed man, rushed to de-escalate the situation. However, he was too late to stop Mr Elmer from pulling the trigger — the drunken man fired an arrow straight at Ms Pia.
By a stroke of fortune, because Ms Pia was speaking to the police, she had her iPhone pressed to the side of her head. Instead of hitting Ms Pia, the bolt struck her iPhone instead, potentially saving her life.
After his attack failed, Mr Elmer quickly fled the home.
On Monday (23 June), Koh Samui Provincial Court granted the police an arrest warrant to apprehend Mr Elmer for attempted murder.
Officers quickly tracked the suspect down to a bus terminal where he had attempted to board a van to flee the area.
