We believe that everyone has the right to clean and nutritious food, so how can we help those who can’t afford it?
On Friday (27 Sep), the Food Bank Singapore – an organisation that centralizes food donations – announced the launch of their fully automated Food Pantry 2.0 on 16 Oct.
The company aims to provide food priced at $2 each through vending machines located in Creamer’s Toa Payoh branch.
Thanks to this initiative, charitable Singaporeans can easily provide food aid to the ones who need it the most.
Food Bank Singapore aims to provide canned food, rice, staples, and cereals for the needy at $2 each.
To achieve this heroic feat, their 24-hour vending machines will be stocked with food that has a shelf life of 4 weeks or less.
Chief Food Officer of FBSG – Nichol Ng – believes that The Food Pantry will help fill the gap in food security.
In a press release, she declared that their food services are open any time,
Most food distribution programmes take place during office hours, but hunger can strike anytime.
Not only will the business provide food, they will also operate family service centres and other social service agencies. RFID tags will be distributed to families-in-need so they can get free food from the vending machines.
The business also plans to provide emergency food aid to the less privileged members of our communities.
Ms. Ng announced,
The Food Pantry always has a role to dish out free emergency food aid.
The Food Pantry 2.0 is a collaboration between Food Bank Singapore and Creamier — a local lifestyle café. The Creamier will sponsor the space and utilities necessary to operate the vending machines.
Khoh Wan Chin, Co-founder of Creamier, hopes that this project can inspire others,
Hopefully, this is the start of a new eco-system where businesses co- work with social enterprises.
Creamier also aims to collaborate with KALMS – a provider of smart vending solutions – to develop cooked meal machines in 2020.
The Food Bank 2.0 initiative will officially open on World Food Day on 16 Oct.
While the opening date is a few weeks away, the Food Bank Singapore is accepting unused and unwanted food which will be distributed through charities, welfare organisations, and soup kitchens.
