A fire broke out at Block 2A Boon Tiong Road in Tiong Bahru, near one of the Havelock MRT station exits, sending thick grey smoke billowing from the windows of the HDB block.
The incident occurred today (20 Oct) at around 1.45pm.
A 77-year-old resident, Michael, told MS News that he was lying in bed on the 15th floor when he first smelled smoke.
However, he was unaware there was a fire until police officers arrived to evacuate the residents.
Michael shared that he overheard rumours that the fire started on the 10th floor, allegedly due to an “explosion” from an old TV set.
He also mentioned that three elderly men resided in the affected unit, with two of them later seen on the ground floor.
Fire engines and an ambulance from the Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) quickly arrived at the scene to manage the situation.
Residents were able to return to their homes at around 2.52pm.
MS News has reached out to the SCDF for further comments on the incident.
