A Russian tourist’s quest for the perfect vacation photo ended in tragedy when she struck a rock while hanging from the side of a moving train in Sri Lanka.
According to Sri Lanka’s Daily Mirror, the accident occurred on the morning of 19 Feb while the woman was travelling on the Badulla-Colombo Podimanike train.
The 53-year-old tourist, identified as Perminova Olga, was travelling between the Badulla and Hali Ela railway stations when the incident occurred.
She was reportedly visiting Sri Lanka with a Russian tour group at the time.
Ms Olga was posing for a photo onboard the moving train when she made contact with a rock.
She was then thrown from the train and suffered several severe injuries.
Ms Olga was rushed to Badulla Teaching Hospital for emergency medical treatment, where she succumbed to her injuries.

A photo of the deceased in a pink dress, allegedly taken just before the incident, has been circulating online.

Russian diplomats are currently making arrangements to repatriate her body to her family.
This tragic incident is not the first time tourists have lost their lives while taking selfies near trains in Sri Lanka.
According to The Straits Times, two women were killed in December last year after being struck by a train while posing for photos on the train tracks.
A similar accident occurred in Taiwan on 20 Jan, when a tourist from the Philippines posing for a photo near railway tracks was struck by a passing train.
The impact knocked her to the ground, leaving her with multiple injuries, though none were life-threatening.
