Recently, two tourists in Thailand allegedly crushed a stray kitten to death using their suitcase, sparking outrage among Thai netizens.
The incident was posted on the Facebook page Social Hunter 2022 on Monday (29 July) and has since gained 1,200 likes.
According to the post, the incident happened at Soi Phaya Nak near the BTS Ratchathewi Station.
The tourists were walking on the street carrying their luggage when they came across a stray kitten named Nong Yen, which was running around the area.
According to Sin Chew Daily, the tourists were annoyed by the intrusion.
When the kitten ran near their luggage, the tourists allegedly kicked it and toppled their suitcase, which fell onto the cat.
A photo uploaded on the Social Hunter 2022 Facebook page showed the stray kitten left bleeding after being crushed.
Upon seeing the incident, a concerned citizen rushed the kitten to the vet.
However, the kitten could not survive its injuries and ultimately died.
Local animal rights activists are reviewing CCTV footage from businesses near the crime scene, Sin Chew Daily reported.
They aim to find evidence of the violence against the stray kitten to bring the assailants to court.
However, the director of the legal department of the Thai animal protection group WatchDog Foundation said tracking the perpetrators may be challenging as they are foreign tourists.
Despite this, the foundation hopes witnesses and posters of the incident can provide more information so the police can take action and hold the tourists accountable.
