Less kiasu couples who aren’t so kancheong about securing a dream BTO flat, we’ve got awesome news for you.
You can now apply online for unsold balance flats from all previous Sale of Balance Flats (SBF) exercises – aka Re-offer of Balance Flats (ROF) – anytime.
This means a shortcut to BTO-ing with your bae, especially if an actual baby is on the cards.
For first-time applicants, here’s what the Re-Offer of Balance Flats (ROF) exercise means.
Think of it as a chapalang mix of all the flats that weren’t sold in previous Sale of Balance Flats launches.
But now, instead of waiting for the elusive twice a year exercise, you can apply online whenever you want.
Bear in mind that there will still be 4 Build-to-Order (BTO) exercises and 2 Sale of Balance Flat (SBF) exercises per year.
Minister Lawrence Wong announced on Thursday (7 Feb), that the new system will be launched from mid-2019.
Couples can participate in an ‘open booking’ of 120 flats from ROF this year, based on a “first-come, first-served basis”.
According to the ministry, waiting time to book a flat will now be shortened to just a day.
For couples who aren’t so picky about where or what kind of flat you’re staying in, or require a flat ASAP due to other reasons — this is definitely good news.
If you’re thinking of signing up with your significant other, do note that you won’t need to indicate a flat type or location, and will be able to book any available units you are eligible for.
2,500 households have successfully booked their flats in past ROF sales, with close to 66% walking away with the keys to their new homes.
There you have it. An extremely fuss-free way to jump the queue for a new home in Singapore.
With past launches looking pretty attractive, from Tengah’s forest town to Punggol’s waterfront estates, we wish our young couples all the best in securing their dream flats.
Although good things do come to those who wait, a house is not a home without the people you love.
So wherever you may live, remember that the people you’re staying with are infinitely more important.
