Halloween Horror Nights 8: Pontianak Kampungs, Death TED Talks & A Killuminati Room

Halloween Horror Nights 8 Returns To Universal Studios Singapore (USS)

Singapore’s most iconic Halloween event, Halloween Horror Nights (HHN), makes its return with the theme of ‘Infinite Fear’.

The 8th installment of the annual scare fest will be running on selected nights from 27 Sep to 31 Oct at Universal Studio Singapore (USS).

Here’s what we’re looking forward to the most.

1. Things just got a whole lot stranger

Stranger Things die-hards, you’re in for a treat as this blockbuster sci-fi thriller will be brought to life this Halloween.

Yes, venture into the Upside Down, the nightmarish alternate dimension where danger lurks.

Barb might probably warn you to leave but c’mon, this is your one and only chance to visit the strangest parallel universe.

This year, USS collaborates with Netflix and the creators of the blockbuster series, Stranger Things, to represent characters and iconic scenes as authentically as possible.

The maze will be modeled after the first season (aka the better season imho).

And lucky us because this tie-up event is only exclusive to Universal Studios Orlando, Hollywood and Singapore!

HHN will transport you to the small town of Hawkins, Indiana, where you’ll get to immerse yourself in scenes such as Byers home adorned with the erratic flashing Christmas lights.

Continue wandering through the maze and you’ll find yourself standing in the middle of Hawkins National Laboratory.

Or even the menacing forest of Mirkwood.

But don’t worry, you won’t be going through this alone. We hear you’ll be bumping into characters from the series or even the infamous Demogorgons.

Unless you have biokinesis capabilities like Eleven, do remember to equip yourself with hardy running shoes.

To enhance your Stranger Things experience, 12 scenes will be recreated in thematic rooms, up from the usual 9.

A myriad of smells and sounds will be used to transport you into the spooky world.

This sounds rad af but we’re hoping that Hawkins doesn’t smell too bad.

2. Asian horror takes centre stage

A proven hit amongst Singaporeans, Asian horror will be under the spotlight this year in 4-themed houses.

Killuminati

Fans can enter the world of Killuminati – the Chinese secret society of vampires that has existed for centuries – where mystery, controversy and nightmares await.

Billed as one of the most interactive haunted houses, watch out for never-seen-before stunts and expect lots of twists where even the bravest souls may end up in different secret rooms!

The Haunting of Oiwa

This house unravels the spine-tingling narrative of the Japanese ghost story of Yotsuya.

Step back in time to the chilling Edo-era and come face-to-face with Lady Oiwa who returns from the dead seeking revenge after being poisoned by her unfaithful husband.

Pontianak

For the first time, a haunted house will be named after the long-haired female vampiric ghost.

Thrill-seekers are advised to tread cautiously as they enter this 1950s Malay Kampung.

Expect various hair-raising scenes narrating the story of the Pontianak to unfold before your eyes.

Pagoda of Peril

Lastly, Pagoda of Peril is a haunted house fashioned after Chinese mythology.

Hoards of ghosts and ghouls will come out to play as USS takes on 1000-year-old mystical folklore.

This house may honestly be the spookiest of all.

3. Bigger, better, scarier: Zombie Laser Tag is back

If you’ve missed out on last year’s Zombie Laser Tag experience, fret not.

Because this year, they are returning by popular demand. With. An. Arena. Twice. The. Size.

So gear up in a teams of 8, as you and your mates gun down the living dead in this ‘zombie apocalypse’.

On the not-so-bright side: an awesome zombie killing experience comes at the additional cost of S$38 per participant.

4. Array of scare zones and live shows

Get thrown into chaos at Apocalyse: Earth as Mother Earth unleashes her most terrifying forces and takes over New York.

Another western horror-themed scare zone includes Cannibal, where visitors can witness an ancient tribe of man-hunters devour bodies of rivals killed in revenge.

Tired of screaming?

Take a break and join Gideon Grim, the Motivational Death Coach, as he hosts a seminar-style show.

He’ll be sharing tips on highly effective scaring in DEAD Talks at the Pantages Hollywood Theater.

5. USS original horror films

For the first time, USS will be producing 3 short, original horror films leading up to HHN 8.

These bite-sized films will showcase the riveting stories and iconic supernatural characters of this year’s haunted houses in unique cinematographic styles.

They will be released between Jul to Aug on Resort World Sentosa’s Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Not bad, not bad at all.

With 5 haunted houses, 3 live shows and 2 scare zones, HHN 8 is definitely a scare event you won’t want to miss.
