Warm, Humid Weather Continues In June With 35°C Temperature On Some Days, But Short Showers Expected

Warm & Humid Weather To Continue, But More Showers Expected In June

We have both bad and good news if you have been hoping to get a respite from the scorching weather.

While more wet days are expected in the first half of June compared to the second half of May, the warm, humid weather looks set to continue.

In the next two weeks, the daily maximum temperature will be about 34°C on some days and may reach a high of 35°C on some days.

Singaporeans should also be prepared for some warm nights. Here’s a summary of the latest weather update.

First two weeks of June to have warm weather & short showers

In a weather advisory on Wednesday (1 Jun), the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said the warm, humid weather Singaporeans have been experiencing in the last few weeks will continue.

However, there will also be brief thundery showers. These are likely to occur over parts of the island in the late morning and afternoon due to strong daytime heating of various land areas.

Sumatra squalls are set to bring widespread thundery showers with gusty winds in the predawn and morning hours.

The MSS also said that dry air from the Indian Ocean may move over the equatorial Southeast Asia region over the next fortnight. This will likely bring warm and fair weather to Singapore and the surrounding areas.

Rainfall in June expected to be near average

In the first two weeks of June, the daily temperature is expected to be between 25°C and 34°C on most days.

But on some days with little to no rain, temperatures could soar to as high as 35°C.

Nights are also projected to be warm and humid, with minimum temperatures as high as 28°C, especially in Singapore’s southern and eastern coastal areas.

Daily maximum temperature exceeded 35°C on 13 days in May

In its weather round-up for May, the MSS said the second half of the month was drier than the first half. While most of the second half of May was fair and warm, several days of thundery showers brought some relief.

In the first half of May, Sumatra squalls brought thundery showers and gusty winds in the mornings. On 4 May, a heavy thundery shower from a Sumatra squall fell over various areas in Singapore at predawn and early morning.

On that day, the daily total rainfall of 89.2mm recorded at Tuas South was the highest daily total for May. Still, MSS said May was a primarily warm month.

In fact, on 22 days in May, the daily maximum temperature exceeded 34°C. On 13 of these days, the daily maximum temperature went beyond 35°C.

These days mainly occurred in the second half of May.

Hang in there for cooler days in June

Although the May to June period has historically been rather warm, the weather seems to be extra punishing of late.

We hope the occasional showers will bring some relief to everyone.

Until cooler days come along, let’s hang in there and try to stay cool.

Don’t forget to bring an umbrella when you head out to shield yourself from the sun or avoid being caught in the rain.
