Woman in M’sia takes care of paralysed husband for 6 years, he divorces her after recovery

Woman in Malaysia divorced by husband whom she took care of for six years

A woman caused a stir on social media after revealing that her husband, whom she took care of for six years when he was paralysed, had divorced her and married another woman.

Ms Nurul Syazwani gained 32,000 followers on Facebook after documenting her daily life as her husband’s caregiver.

However, netizens were shocked after Ms Syazwani made a post congratulating her ex-husband on his new marriage, with a photo of the new couple at their wedding.

“Congratulations to my husband [sic], I hope you are happy with the one you chose. Aifa Aizam, please take good care of him like I did. I am done with him, now it is your turn to take over,” Shazwani reportedly wrote in the now-deleted post.

According to Sin Chew, Ms Syazwani married her ex-husband in 2016 and was in a long-distance marriage with him for two years.

After her ex-husband was involved in a car accident, which rendered him bedridden, she became his primary caregiver.

During this time, she fed him milk four times a day through a nasogastric tube, changed his diapers with nurses’ help, and helped him bathe.

She described the experience:

At that time, I was terribly scared whenever he coughed. I did rehabilitation for him every day, and my family came to help every day so that I could rest. I often bought necessities for my children and husband by myself, which was very stressful. Fortunately, my family gave me a lot of help.

Woman clarifies social media post

In a follow-up post on 18 Oct, Ms Syazwani assured netizens that her ex-husband has “fulfilled his responsibilities well” and that she has done her best for their family.

“Fate, wealth, life and death are all controlled by God, and God has let our relationship end here,” she wrote.

She also addressed comments from her previous post, saying, “Please don’t be angry. Everything that happens has its meaning.”

Ms Syazwani explained that she and her ex-husband officially divorced on 6th October, but they agreed to work together to raise their daughter.

According to MStar, Ms Syazwani posted a now-deleted video at midnight on Sunday (20 Oct), addressing the issue.

“I want to apologize to my ex-husband, his new wife and their families regarding the viral post on Facebook. Everything that happened was my mistake,” she reportedly said.

“Everyone is wondering and tagging me on Facebook. So my posting on Facebook is not aimed at exposing shame or sarcasm but to avoid slander.”

She also requested their friends to stop criticising her and her ex-husband, and netizens to stop “stalking” her ex-husband and his new wife.

Netizens enraged on her behalf

Despite this, many netizens felt the divorce was unfair to Ms Syazwani, especially after caring for her ex-husband for six years, and expressed outrage on her behalf.

“I don’t agree that he has fulfilled his responsibilities as a husband. How can there be such an ungrateful person, as if he has no heart,” one commenter wrote.

Another netizen even pointed out that Ms Syazwani’s ex-husband remarried only a week after their divorce.

However, many also praised Ms Syazwani for her graciousness, sending her and her child good wishes and saying that her kindness will be repaid.
