Woman allegedly hit by lorry while changing tyre on Malaysia expressway

A 31-year-old woman in Malaysia was allegedly struck by a lorry while changing a flat tyre.

The incident happened along a section of the North-South Expressway in Seremban, Malaysia.

The victim reportedly sustained serious injuries to her limbs and passed away at the scene.

According to Berita Harian, the unnamed victim was on her way to her workplace — a water filtration company — at about 9.20am when the incident occurred.

Nur Affiqah Jamran, one of the victim’s colleagues, said she found out about the accident from the victim’s housemate.

“We were supposed to have a meeting with the deceased this morning, but she didn’t show up at the office,” she shared, adding that they felt something was amiss. 

Ms Affiqah and another coworker then rushed to the scene. However, the victim was already dead and her body was covered with a white cloth.

Victim succumbs to serious injuries

Seremban District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Azahar Abdul Rahman said the victim noticed that her Proton X50 SUV had a flat rear tyre while driving and decided to stop in an emergency lane to change it. 

“However, while changing the tyre, a container lorry driven by a 24-year-old man entered the lane and allegedly “grazed” the driver.

Police investigating the case

The victim’s body was taken to Rembau Hospital to determine the exact cause of her death.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
