A woman, who gained notoriety for a viral photo of her kissing dough, has resurfaced again yet at another of Malaysia’s F&B outlets.
This time, she worked for one day at Nando’s before getting sacked for posting photos of staff-only areas in the restaurant.
Alice Chang announced her arrival at Nando’s with a XiaoHongShu post on Thursday (17 Oct) afternoon, which showed her on the premises.
In Ms Chang’s post, captioned “First day working at Nando’s Sunway Putra Mall”, all her photos showed her wearing a face mask (pulled down below her chin) and a hairnet.
She even took a selfie with a colleague.
Some of the photos showed her in what appeared to be the outlet’s kitchen.
Another seemed to have been taken in the storeroom.
In a subsequent post, she shared a photo of two whole chickens, saying: “Today’s chicken is delicious, please remember to come to Nando’s Sunway Putra Mall to support me, thanks.”
Bemused by Ms Chang’s latest update, one netizen remarked that while many struggle to find a job, she seems to land one rather easily.
Another netizen asked whether she would kiss the chicken served to customers.
Others felt the need to alert Nando’s of her reputation. A man commented on Nando’s Facebook page, sharing a screenshot of her post.
Another sent a direct message to Nando’s asking them why it hired her.
Eventually, Nando’s Malaysia released a statement in four languages over Facebook on Thursday night, saying it had hired Ms Chang in a part-time position but dismissed her with immediate effect.
It explained that she had failed to disclose her previous work experiences during the hiring process.
She had reported for her first shift that day but published “confidential areas of our restaurant” on social media “in clear violation of our company policies”.
Even though Ms Chang has left the premises, Nando’s disinfected and deep-cleaned the outlet thoroughly as an extra precaution “given her previous employment history”.
It also checked in with its team to ensure “no further issues” arise from this incident.
The company thanked customers for their support, concern and “swift action”.
Before her short-lived stint at Nando’s, Ms Chang was last seen working at a McDonald’s outlet in Petaling Jaya in an Instagram post on Sunday (13 Oct).
However, her time there was mired in controversy also as she claimed that she was sexually harassed by the manager, reported the China Press.
The manager has denied the accusation, saying that he was in fact on medical leave for three days during the alleged incident.
He has made a police report about her allegations and McDonald’s has also filed a complaint with the Malaysian Communications & Multimedia Commission over Ms Chang’s posts on social media that contained the allegations.
Her Instagram account appears to have been deleted, as the original link to her profile now shows an error message.
