While it wasn’t particularly crowded at the time, she noted that there were no seats available.

Sometime during their commute, the woman mentioned feeling an “intense pain” in her stomach.

As there were no seats, she wanted to “find a corner of the MRT to sit on the floor.”

However, her boyfriend objected.

His reasoning?

“He told me I can’t do that because I’m a lady,” she said.

Asks netizens for views on matter

While the OP acknowledged that there had been previous discourse on whether sitting down in train cabins was acceptable, she asked if gender played a role in making the act “acceptable”.

She further explains that she had not been wearing a skirt or dress, and “was in genuine pain”.

The OP confessed that she has sat on the MRT floor several times before, and it was solely due to feeling “extremely tired”.

She then asks: “What would you think if you saw a lady sitting down on the MRT floor, would it be less acceptable than a man?”

Netizens support OP, calls boyfriend ‘red flag’

Most netizens expressed their support for the OP, and called her boyfriend’s take outdated.

Others pointed out that gender was irrelevant and that her boyfriend did not prioritise her well-being first.

A couple of Reddit users opted to describe his actions as something of a “red flag”, with some advising her to break up with him.
