When women see celebrities like Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and even our hunky homegrown star Chuando Tan, they would drool over their well-built bodies.
However, would they be the ideal husbands? Apparently not.
According to Malaysian Chinese newspaper Sin Chew Daily, a survey conducted by fitness centre Planet Fitness in Jun 2019 shows that most women prefer men who are slightly chubbier compared to the muscular ones.
In the anonymous online questionnaire that was completed by 2,000 women, 70% of them state that they prefer men who were 10kg heavier than the average healthy weight for a male.
On the other hand, 78% of women find that men with “dad bods” are more comfortable in their own skin.
A total of 80% will feel proud getting married to men with “dad bods”. If this term is new to you, it’s a slang to describe a body shape specific to most middle-aged men.
To substantiate this survey, Sin Chew Daily cited a research conducted by Richard Bribiescas, an anthropology professor at Yale University, saying that chubbier men are more inclined to buy looser pants.
Comfortable bottoms are said to help improve sperm count.
This apparently leads to women subconsciously thinking that chubbier men will have a higher fertility rate, hence being more attracted to them.

Netizens online, mostly women, have been giving their opinions on whether this survey is true. Here are some of them.
Some agree with the research, stating that they are afraid of big muscles, like this woman.
Meanwhile, some women still prefer their man to be buff.
Alas, there are a few out there who thinks that a man’s attitude and personality are more important than good physique.
For men who put in the effort to build their bodies, don’t be discouraged as there are definitely women out there who will appreciate you for the man you are.
