These 3 Woodlands MRT Stations Will Open By Jan 2020, Here’s What They’ll Look Like

3 Woodlands MRT Stations Launch Open House On 11 Jan, Will Open Officially On 31 Jan

Singapore is well-known for her abundance of MRT stations and she isn’t stopping any time soon.

3 Woodlands MRT stations – Woodlands, Woodlands North & Woodlands South – at the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) will open by Jan 2020. It was previously reported that the stations will open by end-2019.

Let’s take a look at how Thomson-East Coast Line will look upon completion.

While other MRT stations are set to open in the years to come, here’s what you need to know about the 3 stations that will open next January.

Woodlands North Station (TE01)

The Woodlands North Station (TE01) is set to connect Singapore to Johor Bahru through the Rapid Transit System (RTS) which will be completed in 2024.

In the future, it’ll be a lot easier to shop ‘till you drop in JB when you can easily haul your shopping bags and head home to Singapore.

Located beside Republic Polytechnic, the station will make commutes easier for students.

Woodlands Station (TE02)

Woodlands Station (TE02) serves as the interchange from the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL) to the North-South Line. We bet you’ve been to Woodlands Station, but its connection to the TEL station is currently in construction underground.

The station will be near Causeway Point and Woodlands Civic Centre. This station will make it easy for commuters from Woodlands North and South to travel from Jurong East to Marina South Pier.

Woodlands South Station (TE03)

Woodlands South Station (TE03) is beside Christ Church School and Singapore Sports School.

Like most MRT stations, Woodlands South will have a minimalist design and a spacious area dedicated for waiting passengers.

Aspiring sports stars don’t need to sweat to visit the training centre since Singapore Sports School will be easily accessible.

The station is along Woodlands Road and will also be near Light of Christ Church Woodlands and the upcoming Woodlands General Hospital.

Riders can travel for free on the “first few days”

On Thursday (19 Sep), Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan announced that the stations will open by Jan 2020.

Commuters will also be able to travel on the TEL for free on the “first few days” of their opening, reports Channel NewsAsia (CNA).

This will allow MRT riders to familiarise themselves with the new stations. Announcing an extra treat, Mr Khaw was also quoted as saying,

We will also use December to organise station and train visits for the local residents who have put up with construction all these years, to thank them.

Here’s to hoping we’ll get to see how the new stations and trains look like through pictures on our social media feed.

Looking forward to all 3 Woodlands MRT stations

Singapore might be small but there’s no harm in building more MRT stations that could significantly reduce travel time.

While not all of us visit the Woodlands area, we’re looking forward to the completion of the Rapid Transit System at Woodlands North Station in the years to come.

The favourable exchange rate will undoubtedly improve the shopping prospects of many kiasu Singaporeans.
