Hip pop-up markets have long replaced pasar malams, but are still attracting crowds, especially with their Instragrammable fare.
Woodlands residents are in for a treat, as a special night market, Malam Escape, is offering a wide variety of delights this week.
From carnival rides to yummy street food and ‘live’ music, this is the place to be to have a chill night out with friends and family.
Back in the day, we’d only look forward to typical pasar malam treats like Ramly burger, muah chee or kueh tutu. But the new-generation markets have a much wider variety of food to please even the pickiest of eaters.
On top of the traditional treats above, you can also expect international street food like the sweet and crispy Thai pancake.
Pair this with a refreshing cup of Thai milk tea and you’ll feel like you’re in the streets of Bangkok, on a well-deserved break.
Something you probably wouldn’t see at a run-of-the-mill night market is fresh seafood.
Fresh oysters and crayfish slathered in creamy, garlic butter are just some of the more unique foods you can find at Malam Escape.
You can savour your delicious meals comfortably, as there are benches available for you and your whole entourage to sit at.
Looking for a way to burn the calories or simply amp up the fun? Why not play some of the slew of exciting carnival games and rides with your buddies.
There are the usual hoop or ball-throwing stalls and claw machines where you can win plushies, but also water games for a splashing good time.
Not forgetting the mini amusement park rides that’ll entertain the little ones.
There’s certainly something for everyone, even those who’d prefer a more laid back vibe.
This night market has ‘live’ music performances a la Artbox, minus the insane crowds, so you can truly relax to some groovy beats.
Seems like there could be movie screenings too, when the musicians aren’t around. Grab a seat on one of the comfy beanbags and bask in the festive atmosphere.
With such a vibrant ambience, Malam Escape surely lives up to its claim of being an “Urban Void Deck Party”.
The market has been ongoing since 1 Nov, and will end this Sunday (17 Nov), so hurry down before it closes. Here’s more info:
