Pasar malams may not be the first place one thinks of for buying CNY decor, but these days, what can’t you find there?
Well, we’ll tell you what you can find in Woodlands for the rest of this month besides mouth-watering food: Chinese New Year mouse statues.
Of course, you’ll find all the usual fare at this Pasar Malam located next to Woodlands MRT station, from claw machines to bubble tea. But because CNY is coming, there’s something a little special for the families out there.
Hide your kids and hide your wife, for the God of Fortune is here. Yes, that’s Cai Shen Dao you’re hearing in your head right now.
From angbaos to hanging red lanterns, you won’t need to travel all the way down to Waterloo Street for your CNY decorations. Those living in the North can breathe a sigh of relief.
A perennial fixture in homes every CNY, these lucky bamboo plants will bless you with prosperity in the home as well as boba, as you can grab a brown sugar fresh milk boba right after picking up one of these bad boys.
You may or may not know that certain flower species are more popular for Chinese New Year, such as the peony and peach blossoms.
Well, here’s your chance to beautify your home this CNY.
And here’s the main event, what you clicked on to confirm will be at the pasar malam — the foooood.
Most of your favourites, from takoyaki stands to churros coated in chocolate, are in fact present at the pasar malam.
You’ll also get to watch these blowtorch-seared beef cubes in action, as they are doused in flames for your viewing and subsequent gastronomic pleasure.
The cubes are then topped off with cheese, which is similarly melted with the blowtorch — giving a gooey and irresistibly decadent texture.
Mamma mia.
Popular finger-food exponents O’Briam are also at Woodlands, and one look at their choco cheese goreng pisang (banana fritters) is enough to see why.
Of course, one can’t forget about the drinks – stalls like KEcha have all the trendy bubble tea varieties to fill your tummy with a sense of contentment and later, regret. But contentment comes first.
There are also a vast array of claw machines available, so you can win toys to your heart’s content.
Arcade-style games are also available, and you can stand to win great prizes such as phones and Minion figurines.
Northies rise up, for it’s your turn to get a pasar malam.
Difficult to miss, not only can you have your fill of Ramly Burgers and crème brûlée fresh milk, but also shop for festive decorations this CNY at Woodlands pasar malam until 23 Jan.
