2 More Wuhan Virus Cases Confirmed In S’pore, MOH Tracing Close Contacts Of Infected Patients

2 More Patients Confirmed To Have Wuhan Coronavirus, Total Cases In Singapore Now At 3

After announcing the first case of the Wuhan virus in Singapore, the Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed today (24 Jan) that they have found 2 new cases.

One of them is the 37-year-old son of the 66-year-old man, who was the first victim. Both are in isolation at Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

The third victim is a 53-year-old woman who arrived in Singapore via a Scoot flight on Tuesday (21 Jan), reports Channel NewsAsia (CNA).

3rd Wuhan virus patient arrived in Singapore on 21 Jan

According to CNA, the woman had developed a fever, cough and chills shortly after arriving, and went to Raffles Hospital on Wednesday (22 Jan).

Hospital staff subsequently transferred her to Tan Tock Seng Hospital for quarantine and testing.

She tested positive for the Wuhan virus at midnight on Thursday (23 Jan).

MOH said in a statement that the woman was staying at J8 Hotel and had visited Marina Bay Sands, Orchard Road, and Gardens by the Bay.

Currently, the woman is at the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID) and is in stable condition.

MOH tracing other flight passengers

Currently, the authorities have identified those who were on the same flight as the first suspect and tested them – only the son tested positive so far.

As more screenings on passengers are made, there may be more suspected cases – but not all of them are necessarily carriers of the virus.

Therefore, there is no cause for alarm.

The rest of us should, however, take safety precautions and be wary of symptoms of illnesses, just in case:

Meanwhile, do go about your activities as usual, and continue with your CNY plans. Stay tuned for further updates.
