My Home Cafe In Yishun Brings Joy Amidst Difficult ‘Circuit Breaker’ Period With Cute Doodles

Some give out free cups of coffee to healthcare workers, others donate to migrant workers. Many businesses are doing all they can to bless our community in one way or another.

For this young cafe based in Yishun, they’ve chosen to bring a smile to their customers with cute doodles on dabao boxes.

Yishun cafe staff leave cute doodles & messages on containers

Just yesterday (26 Apr), Redditor u/y04min posted an image of plastic takeaway containers with endearing doodles on each lid.

As it turns out, these were takeaways for customers of My Home Cafe. The user shared that due to the Covid-19 measures, business has not been ideal. What they’re left with is spare pockets of time.

This extra time is therefore now dedicated to adding little precious touches to customers’ takeaway orders.

The doodles often include succinctly sweet messages with cartoon animals.

Business founded on the premise of blessing others

Speaking to MS News, the owners, Budi and Gideon, shared that business first started just last month, in Mar 2020.

Prior to opening this cafe, Budi had 10 years of experience in the F&B industry, holding on to his dream of starting his own business. Gideon, on the other hand, together with his wife Nelly, has been working with at-risk youth since 2006.

Having been friends for almost 15 years, the duo decided to start this business to provide employment opportunities for said youth.

Wanting all youth who visit their warm cafe to feel at home, the name “My Home Cafe” thus came to pass.

For those curious to visit the cafe some time, here are the details:

Address: My Home Cafe, Junction Nine Shopping Mall, 18 Yishun Avenue 9, #01-33, Singapore 768897
Opening hours: 12pm – 10pm
Nearest MRT station: Yishun

My Home Cafe provides islandwide delivery during ‘Circuit Breaker’, and all you have to do is send your orders via WhatsApp to 82516971. Check out their menu here.

Supporting local businesses

My Home Cafe also revealed that business has been rocky since the authorities tightened Covid-19 measures.

“Business has been slow as now basically the mall is empty. We rely very much on our island-wide delivery and also word of mouth.”

Needless to say, they aren’t the only business adversely affected by the outbreak.

For those who frequent food delivery service, let us continue supporting local businesses in this tough time. Amidst all the uncertainty, food will always be a great source of comfort.

After all, who’s going to feel down after ingesting a delicious martabak?
