A 17-year-old girl just became the youngest-ever prosecutor in California history.
According to the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office, Sophia Park passed the state’s bar exam on 8 Nov and broke the record previously held by her own brother.
Just a year earlier, her brother had set the state record when he passed the bar exam aged 17 and 11 months. But now Peter Park will never hear the end of it from his sister after she beat his record and passed the bar exam at age 17 and 8 months.
Sophia attended law school while simultaneously attending high school. Like her brother before her, she was able to apply to law school after she had completed her College Level Proficiency Exams.
She began studying at Northwestern California University School of Law at only 13 in 2020.
She graduated high school in 2022 and finished law school in 2024.
According to WRTV, Sophia’s father said being a lawyer had always been a “part of her path”.
Sophia currently works as a law clerk at the Tulare County District Attorney’s Office. When she turns 18, she plans on joining her brother at the District Attorney’s Office as a prosecutor.
“As a prosecutor, I will work to see justice served and ensure that victims’ voices are heard,” she said.
Even though she’s beaten her brother, the sibling rivalry is far from over.
Sophia’s father shared on Good Morning America that his third child is right on Sophia’s tail. Sarah is currently attending her second year of law school, he said.
Time will tell if Sophia’s record will stand or if her younger sister continues the family trend.
