Kanchanaburi’s Idyllic Lakeside Resort Offers A Breathtaking Stay On A Private Lake

Z9 Resort In Kanchanaburi Is Perfect For Nature Lovers

City life can be stifling. The busy streets, the crowds, the noise, the chaos. And in a small country like Singapore, it’s hard to find a nice, isolated spot to spend a few days in silence.

That’s where Thailand’s Z9 Resort comes in.

A 4-hour drive from Bangkok’s international airport, the resort is tucked away in a little corner of Kanchanaburi, a town in west Thailand.

The name “Z9” comes from the Egyptian Mount Sinai. According to the Bible, the mountain is where Moses often meditated. So it’s no surprise that Z9 presents itself as a place for relaxation and rejuvenation.

An idyllic escape north

As you may have noticed from the picture, there are 2 separate stretches. The stretch with 10 houses is called “Escape North”, while the stretch with 5 is called “South the Scene”.

The rooms in South the Scene are almost half the size of the ones in Escape North. But don’t worry, both provide an equally stunning view of the horizon.

Since the resort only has 20 rooms, you can be sure that the serenity won’t be constantly broken by large hoards of tourists common in mainstream resorts.

Living on a lake

What’s better than waking up in a rustic cabin-like room? Waking up in a rustic cabin-like room that floats on a lake. With a splendid view of the calm waters and distant mountains, you may just end up lazing on your bed the entire morning.

If you want some fresh air, you can always hop onto the platform outside and enjoy the lounging in the sun.

Trust us, it looks even better at night once dusk falls.

Food at your fingertips

It’s possible to be so taken in by the view that you forget about lunch or dinner. But don’t worry, just take a short stroll to the main resort building.

You’ll find an open-air café that whips up Thai and Italian cuisines.

And even when you’re eating, you can continue to enjoy the view and atmosphere.

Explore limestone caves in an untouched waterfall

If you’re not the kind to sit around idly for an entire day, you can always go for a dip in the water or rent a kayak and paddle around.

During the day, you can also head out to Erawan Waterfall, which is a 40-minute drive away. Just make sure you ask the resort to charter a driver for you beforehand because being so far from the city, you’ll probably never be able to flag a taxi.

The waterfall is divided into 7 tiers, or levels. You may be surprised at the sheer number of fish in the first tier. It may be frightening at first, but you’ll soon get used to it. Behind some of the waterfalls are actually limestone caves which you can explore.

Luxury doesn’t come cheap

The larger Escape North rooms go for a nightly rate of 6,600 Baht (S$275) per person, while the South the Scene ones go for 4,500 Baht (S$187).

This may sound a little pricey, but for the spellbinding peace you get to wake up to every morning, it may be well worth the splurge.
