70 New Covid-19 Cases On 28 Mar, Including 2 Linked To SingPost Cluster & 41 Imported

Singapore Confirms 70 New Covid-19 Cases On 28 Mar, Total Tally Now At 802

Singapore has just confirmed 70 new Covid-19 cases on Saturday (28 Mar). This brings the total number of cases here to 802.

Here’s a summary of tonight’s latest figures reported by Ministry of Health (MOH):

  • 41 imported cases had travelled to Europe, North America, ASEAN, and other Asian countries
  • This includes a 1-year-old Singaporean girl, who travelled recently to UK and France
  • 15 of the 29 local cases are linked to previous clusters or cases
  • These include 2 from new cluster SingPost, 1 from Fengshan PCF Sparkletots, and 1 from Dover Court International School.

Authorities are still carrying out contact tracing for the remaining 14 cases unlinked.

15 patients discharged

In the meantime, 15 patients have been discharged. We now have 198 total recoveries.

Of the 420 patients still hospitalised, most are stable or improving. 19 are in critical condition at the intensive care unit.

MOH reports that 182 cases who are clinically well but still test positive for the coronavirus are currently under the care of:

  • Concord International Hospital
  • Mount Elizabeth Hospital
  • Gleneagles Hospital
  • Community Isolation Facility at D’Resort NTUC.

2 police officers tested positive for Covid-19

An hour before MOH’s announcement, the Singapore Police Force had confirmed that 2 officers have been infected with Covid-19.

According to The Straits Times, both of them are stationed with different units. They had not been recently involved in operations linked with Covid-19.

The first officer – Case 709 – was confirmed to have the infection on Thursday (26 Mar). Since he was still undergoing training at his unit, he was not sent on active duties since 2 Mar.

He is currently being warded at National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).

The second officer – Case 731 – had tested positive on Thursday (25 Mar) as well. He last reported to work on 20 Mar, and is currently hospitalised at Changi General Hospital.

Time to take social distancing measures seriously

Earlier today, the Singapore government has urged Singaporeans to take safe distancing measures seriously and to avoid any non-essential visits to malls and supermarkets.

This means that they should only visit shopping centres for essentials, such as food.

Due to social distancing measures put in place by stores and malls, queues are also to be expected, especially during peak hours.

While it’s clear Singapore government is gradually taking more drastic measures to ensure everyone’s safety, let’s be responsible citizens and take social distancing seriously.

This means it’s also time to stay home as much as possible. Although it’s inconvenient, bear in mind this is only temporary. Let’s practise good hygiene and social responsibility so that we can tide through tough times as a nation.
