A Korean girl on her way from New York to Seoul on Asiana Airlines in June came down suddenly with a high fever and stomachache, reported the Korean airline.
The 8-year-old girl was on flight OZ221 and visiting her relatives in Korea.
Luckily for the girl, a doctor was on board, and recommended that she be taken to a hospital.
After seeking the permission of the 470 passengers on board, the pilot and crew made an emergency landing.
Even though an emergency landing would result in several hours of delay, the passengers were gracious. A life was potentially at stake, after all.
In order to land the plane safely at Anchorage International Airport in Alaska, 15 tons of oil was dumped.
This is so that the plane’s weight would be lowered.
The plane eventually took off again after a refuel, and landed safely at Incheon Airport close to four hours behind the original arrival time.
However, nobody was angry – they were even highly appreciative of the pilot and staff for making the decision to stop, applauding when the pilot apologised for the inconvenience caused.
After the girl made a full recovery, she drew a picture thanking the airline for their decisive move. The girl’s father, who lives in the United States, mailed the drawing to the airline, who then featured it on their Facebook page on 26 Jul.
Does the plane in the drawing not look like one of Asiana’s? We think it does. She’s a pretty talented artist.
We’ve all heard of interesting flight stories, and some are pretty horrific. Thankfully, there’s a happy ending to this particular one, and we got a cute drawing to boot.
Kudos to Asiana Airlines for their decision in order to save a life.
