Bride Rejects Groom For Being Bad At Math, Arranged Marriage Scrapped Due To Mismatched Expectations

Bride Allegedly Breaks Up With Groom After He Didn’t Know Correct Answer To 15 + 6

Not all wedding proposals end with a happily ever after.

On Tuesday (3 Sep), World of Buzz reported via Astro Awani that a bride allegedly cancelled her own wedding because the groom failed to answer a question.

No, the question wasn’t,

Will you take this woman to be your bride?

She asked him for an answer to a simple math sum, “15 + 6 =?”. When he answered incorrectly, and she decided that the relationship wasn’t going to work out, reports Astro Awani.

While there are a lot of reasons why marriage proposals are rejected, we never thought math skills would factor into the equation. Here’s how the story unfolded.

Epic fail for addition question

We can understand the rationale of acing our Math exams to attain a good future, but we never knew it could be a deciding factor for a wedding.

According to Astro Awani, a bride from Uttar Pradesh in India asked her groom-to-be the question,

How much is 15 plus 6?

Since their relationship was arranged by their parents, the bride didn’t seem to know her soon-to-be husband personally. However, she was shocked when the groom allegedly thought that 17 was the right answer.

Marriage proposal nerves?

We all know that “15 + 6 = 17” is obviously incorrect.

Once her soon-to-be husband gave his answer, the bride realised that he might not have attained an education.

She instantly felt the wedding nerves and ultimately opted to cancel the ceremony.

Her father – Mr Mohar Singh – approved of his daughter’s decision. He believed that it was the groom’s fault for not telling them the truth about his education level.

According to World of Buzz, he quipped,

The groom’s family has hidden information about his poor education.

The bride’s father was even of the opinion that a child could easily answer this sum too.

One more chance?

After failing a Math exam, students usually get another shot at acing the test, but sometimes there are no second chances.

When the groom’s family tried to persuade the bride to push through with the ceremony, she firmly stood up for her decision. She ultimately refused to marry a man that deceived her.

Since jewellery and gifts were exchanged by the two families, local authorities arrived to resolve the situation. The families mutually agreed to return what they received from the arranged marriage.

Let your partner know your expectations early

Knowing who you’ll be spending the rest of your life with is key to a successful relationship.

While this lady chose not to spend her life with a man who wasn’t good at math, some believe that education level has no bearing on one’s capacity to love.

Marriage is the beginning of a pivotal chapter so it’s important to let your partner know your expectations and plans for the future.

However, all parties in the relationship should get to know each other as much as possible, before agreeing to the marriage. If your partner has a trait that you consider a ‘deal-breaker’, it’s better to discover it sooner rather than later.

In the meantime, perhaps it’s time to polish your math skills to impress your future bride-to-be and her family?
