Choa Chu Kang resident places stroller on 10th-floor ledge, neighbours worry about ‘killer litter’

Choa Chu Kang residents express concern over stroller placed on 10th floor window ledge

Residents in Choa Chu Kang have expressed concern after spotting a neighbour drying a stroller on a window ledge.

The incident occurred outside a 10th-floor unit at Block 554 Choa Chu Kang North 6 last Saturday (14 Dec), a resident told Shin Min Daily News.

Photos showed the stroller protruding slightly from the ledge, partially resting on an aircon compressor.

Residents fear ‘killer litter’

A 50-year-old housewife, identified only as Ms Cai (transliterated from Mandarin), said she had previously seen items like pillows being hung outside to dry.

However, this was the first time she had seen such a large item placed on a ledge.

Another resident, Mr Zhang (transliterated from Mandarin), shared his concerns about the danger of placing a stroller there.

As the item was heavy and perched on the 10th floor, it could cause severe harm if it fell and hit someone, the 39-year-old said.

While “killer litter” isn’t a major problem in the estate, Mr Zhang added that he usually walks in covered areas to avoid falling objects.

Resident says stroller was secured with rope

When contacted by Shin Min Daily News, the resident of the unit explained that he had placed the stroller on a flat surface and secured it with rope to prevent it from falling.

He claimed that the heavier an object is, the less likely it is to be blown away, adding that this was “common physics knowledge”.

This wasn’t the first time he had dried items outside the window — he said he had previously placed shoes and trolleys there without incident, emphasising that he always ties them securely with rope.

However, he declined to let reporters into his flat to verify whether the stroller was tied up, stating there was “no need to explain”.

Stroller will be taken in

The man, who wished to remain anonymous, said he had picked up the stroller from the garbage at 7am on Saturday.

After washing it, he intended to dry it before bringing it to Johor Bahru to donate to those in need.

His daughter added that while they believed the stroller was safely secured, they would take it in to ease their neighbours’ concerns.
