When dealing with children who’re overly obsessed with games, parents may choose to confiscate their devices or limit their screen time.
While this practice is common, a father in China found himself in a near-death situation after doing just that.
A video circulating on Chinese social media platforms shows the son brandishing a large cleaver in front of the father, presumably upset that his father had taken his phone.
Thankfully, the father somehow managed to snatch the cleaver from the young child while the latter wasn’t paying attention.
A 13-second video on Weibo shows a young child in beige in a tense confrontation with his father, dressed in blue.
The incident in question reportedly took place in the Chinese autonomous region of Guangxi last Friday (10 Feb).
At the start of the video, the boy raises the cleaver in a threatening manner before pointing it towards his father’s chest.
Throughout the video, the father has his left arm wrapped in a black piece of cloth, possibly for protection.
At about the nine-second mark, the boy brushes the cleaver against the left side of his father’s chest.
But instead of reeling from the threatening gesture, the father daringly grabs the boy’s wrist and pushes the cleaver away from his body.
The father subsequently uses both arms to hold off his son’s hand and seemingly disarms the child after putting the boy’s arm in an awkward, outstretched position.
The caption of the video states that the son is obsessed with games. Determined to put an end to the boy’s obsession, the father reportedly decided to confiscate his son’s phone but ended up being confronted with a knife.
The video has since garnered over 7 million views on Weibo, with many netizens expressing their concerns.
This user stated that if the boy could raise a knife to his father at such a young age, he could turn into a murderer when he grows up.
Another commenter said that there’s an urgent need for parents to educate their children, or they’ll never know when they might find themselves at the mercy of violent reactions.
Meanwhile, this Weibo user said that they’d consider sending the child to a juvenile detention centre if they found themself with such a kid.
Seeing a child hold a knife towards his own father is indeed heartbreaking, what more over a minor issue like a confiscated phone.
We hope both parties did not sustain any injuries and that they will receive the necessary help to remedy their relationship.
