In light of the Covid-19 outbreak, Singapore has been working hard to detect cases to contain the illness. On Monday, the Philippine Embassy confirmed on Facebook that a Filipino national in Singapore tested positive for the illness.
This is Singapore’s first case of a Filipino national being infected with the virus.
The embassy stated that the patient is now warded in an isolation room in a hospital.
They were told that the Ministry of Health (MOH) does not share personal details about their cases, and this one is no exception.
At the same time, the embassy is in “close contact and coordination with the Ministry of Health”. They will also provide any necessary consular assistance.
The embassy also advised all Filipinos in Singapore to maintain vigilance and good personal hygiene habits. It also urged those with symptoms of the virus to visit a doctor.
In addition, it cautioned them to avoid non-essential travel to affected areas such as Daegu City and Cheongdo county in South Korea. They should exercise caution if travelling to other areas in South Korea
South Korea currently has 763 confirmed cases, and their disease alert is currently at the highest level.
While this is not news that Filipinos living in Singapore want to hear, it’s necessary to be transparent.
We hope that this outbreak will end soon and that the affected cases will recover soon
