Earlier today (21 Feb), Singapore Institute of Technology (SIT) confirmed that a student of theirs has been diagnosed with Covid-19.
Turns out, this is the lone case of the day, as confirmed by Ministry of Health.
The student, a 24-year-old man, is linked to Singapore’s first known patient who was infected with dengue and Covid-19.
He is currently warded at Ng Teng Fong Hospital, where the dengue and covid-19 patient is currently isolated.
According to TODAY Online, today’s latest case, referred to as Case 86 by MOH, has no recent travel history to China.
On 14 Feb, the student suffered an onset of symptoms. He later sought treatment at 2 general practitioner (GP) clinics on 16 and 18 Feb.
On 19 Feb, he visited Ng Teng Fong Hospital and was warded in isolation right away.
He was confirmed to be infected with Covid-19 the next afternoon.
He lives in Bukit Batok East Ave 5, and hasn’t attended school since he first reported the onset of symptoms.
In a media release, SIT informed the public that a Year 3 Telematics student, based in SIT@Dover campus, tested positive for the virus.
The student was last on campus on 14 Feb late afternoon, and has not come into contact with any other student or staff since he reported an onset of the symptoms.
He alerted the school as soon as he was confirmed with the infection.
Once SIT received news, they immediately deep-cleansed and disinfected all lecture theatres, seminar rooms, and laboratories used by the student.
They have already increased frequency of cleaning all campus areas and facilities to 3 times a day since DORSCON Orange, and said that this will continue.
SIT added that students are currently on their recess week. You can read the full release here.
If you recall, MOH had also confirmed one other patient yesterday, a Chinese national who hasn’t travelled to China recently.
He is case 85, and MOH had just revealed further details.
The 36-year-old male reported an onset of symptoms on 14 Feb. He went to a GP clinic on 3 occasions — 14, 16 and 19 Feb.
After his clinic visit on 19 Feb, he went to Yishun Polyclinc, before being admitted into Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
He was diagnosed with Covid-19 the next day. He had mostly stayed indoors in his rental flat at Woodlands Ave 6.
10 patients have been discharged on Friday (21 Feb) as well. This means that Singapore now has 47 recoveries — the most in a single location outside mainland China.
In recent days, it’s been quite a relief to know that the number of recoveries are surpassing the number of confirmed cases. Hopefully, this trend continues as we inch closer to the day we’re Covid-19-free.
Until then, do wear a mask and visit a doctor if you’re unwell. And always, always, wash your hands.
